We use what is called an acid stain. This stain is chemically designed to react to the active ingredients of concrete and the result is stunning. There is no design element or theme that cannot be complimented by stained concrete. Acid stain does not hide the concrete — it is not a topical product. It is a penetrating stain, showing every nuance beautifully in color. Remember your floor has a personality and nobody's perfect! There are many staining techniques we can discuss to make your floors original and unique: alternate staining, diluting, layering, marbleizing, etc. Acid stain does not fade, chip, crack, or peel. After staining, polish or wax are the key to maintaining your floors and keep them beautiful for a lifetime.
Stain colors can be best described as either warm or cool colors. Warm colors are Antique Amber, Patio Tile (Faded Terracotta), Padre Brown, Dark Walnut and Charcoal. Cool colors are Copper Patina, Fern Green, Weathered Bronze and Avocado. Black is considered a neutral color and looks great for borders. Our advice is don't be afraid of color! Take risks. Choose the color you want and go for it!
Staining can be very tricky, especially when experimenting with diluting with water to tone down the intensity of the stain color. It is NOT an exact science! Most contractors do not even attempt many of the effects that we attempt with stain. But as artists we are interested in pushing the limits of stain and discovering it's seemingly endless possibilities. Please allow for some "flexibility" with your project, with the understanding that staining concrete is not a cookie-cutter business. And know that we love what we do and it will show in your floors.
